Library Committee - FCGHS

The Library Committee shall be responsible for maintaining and preserving all materials retained by the Society and keeping a record of all Society materials turned over to others for genealogical use or preservation. (Society By-Laws)

In 1975, when the society was located in Benson Hall, (now razed), Columbus, OH , a small collection of books were donated.   Suzanne Mettle, a volunteer, began organizing them.  It was the mission of the society "to create and build interest in preserving, collecting, and publishing genealogical and historical records".  Thus began the society's library.  Through the years, many genealogical, local and county histories, city directories were acquired filling the rooms at the Harrison House ( 570 W. Broad Street, Columbus, OH).

In 2010,  because of the economic crisis, FCGHS had to move to a smaller location.  The society felt it was best to donate the entire collection to the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML)  ( 96 S. Grant Ave) where the public could best utilize this collection.  FCGHS' collection, along with the State of Ohio, Palatines of America, Joy Wade Moulton's collection and others are housed on the 3rd floor, genealogy department.

We welcome all donations, whether monetary or in the form of family histories, genealogies, Bible Records, or any kind of literature that contains genealogical information.  The Society also purchases for the library requested books.
