Institutional Records Seminar: Records from Ohio’s Prisons, Asylums, And Children’s Homes

Records from Ohio’s government operated institutions provide fascinating insights into the people who lived there.  Information available could include photographs, height and weight, occupation, parents’ and siblings’ information, and the reason the person was admitted to the institution. Speaker: Liz Plummer, Outreach Reference Archivist, Ohio History Connection. Attendees will be shown how to search for information in the following institutions’ records.

Ohio Penitentiary, Ohio State Reformatory, and Ohio Women’s Reformatory

  • Behavioral Healthcare and Developmental Disabilities Institutions operated by the state of Ohio

  • Boys and Girls Industrial Schools

  • Ohio School for the Deaf

  • Children’s Homes

Cost: $15.00 OHC/FCGHS members, $20.00 non-members

In addition to acknowledging our volunteers and celebrating our Pioneer families, we will also enjoy a Fashion Show, focusing primarily on Victorian fashions, presented by Kit Matulich and The Alley Vintage  & Costume
 
We will also be holding a silent auction. There are several sets of items, including Columbus and Ohio centered ephemera, local wine and preserves, a DIY scrapbook kit, and a unique Victorian themed floral centerpiece. Additional silent auction tickets can be purchased for $1 each
 
Cost: $20.00 per person
